![]() While Aesfrost and Hyzante have general creeds that set the tone in their respective nations (Glenbrook is a bit harder to pin down due to the role of the high houses), the selfish political calculations of everyone in power are never far from the surface, and navigating these waters are what really give the story its power, especially when the knives (both figuratively and literally) come out. Your character, Serenoa Wolffort, is the son of the Lord of one of Glenbrook’s high houses, and is preparing for a politically-bargained wedding to the half-sister of the Aesfrost archduke when the salt hits the fan and he ascends to house lordship just as the alliance begins to crumble. So what is the story I keep gushing over? The game takes place thirty years after a devastating war over the continent’s primary resources (iron and…salt? Really?), with the three kingdoms (Aesfrost, Glenbrook, and Hyzante) locked in an uneasy alliance. Still, you always feel like you are involved in important political decisions and discussions, and that they warrant careful and copious thought to make sure you make the right choice. While this approach made success in combat feel very rewarding, the vaunted ‘Scales of Conviction’ scenes never seemed terribly difficult: Everyone was open to discussion and convincing them was a matter of finding the right information during exploration scenes (at least during the early stages of the game). Unlike most country songs on the radio right now, this game makes you think long and hard about every decision, and the high stakes and serious tone of the game makes every decision feel weighty and purposeful. This deliberate (plodding?) pace, however, is also the game’s biggest strength. There are some “mock” battles that can help you get your combat fix in between chapter skirmishes, but they’re generally pretty short and nowhere near as involved. In other words, you can be waiting a long time between battles, and if the story doesn’t interest you, this game will be like watching paint dry (and if you’ve set the difficulty too high, eve the fighting will begin to grate on you). A single battle, which will sometimes take an hour or so to complete (and that’s if you win the fight the first time).Even if you skip all the optional scenes, you’re sitting through a lot of dialogue. A ton of cutscenes that tell the story, set up the battles, and provide some backstory for the characters. One (possibly two) exploration scenes, where you get to run around a limited area, find a few hidden items, learn some information tidbits to use later in negotiation scenes, and speak with all the cats in Norzelia. If there’s one word to describe this game, it is slooooooooow: The game is broken down into chapters, and each chapter includes the following: Whether it’s worth buying, however, is another story, and it boils down to one question: How much action do you like in a game? As much as I like Triangle Strategy, this game is only one step above watching a movie, and if you like a bit more excitement and pace in your games, you’ll probably want to pass this one by. Whether the game is good or not is not in question: The story is epic, the characters are captivating, and it’s likely to go down as one of my favorite games on the Nintendo Switch. It was only a matter of time before Square jumped into the tactical RPG waters, and the result was the strangely-named Triangle Strategy, leading players through another story of three kingdoms at war trying to rule the fictional land of Norzelia. ![]() ![]() Square has mostly erased the memory of its messy late-90s breakup with Nintendo with games like Octopath Traveler, Bravely Default II, and Dragon Quest Builders 1 & 2, while tactical RPGs have seen a rise in popularity through games like Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and especially Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Do you like a good story? Because a story is most of what you’ll get from this game.īoth Square Enix and tactical RPGs have had a pretty good run on the Nintendo Switch thus far. ![]() It’s an incredibly effective crowd control tactic, though it won’t do you much good against bosses.Ī benefit, too, is with a swift and clean takedown of an enemy, you can get a year taken off your death sentence. I also poured some experience into being able to use the environment. If I could isolate them as much as possible, the damage I took would be bearable as I could regain most of that back with well-timed takedowns. It was the first thing I maxed out, and it benefitted me when facing multiple enemies. A power-up I targeted for myself was making sure I would heal as much as possible during takedowns. How you go about getting those is up to you. You’re definitely going to die, but at least you’ll walk away with at least one new power up. Sifu, for its credit, has plenty of ways for you to mitigate this challenge and improve upon every attempt. There’s an amazing story here, but if you’re getting frustrated by even the second boss, then you’re on the edge of giving up playing the game in its entirety. The problem with Sifu, and games like Sifu is that they run the risk of being too hard for their own good. No for real, I will send you a box of cookies. ![]() If you’re successful in your sixth, I will give you a cookie. You won’t even be successful in your third, fourth, or fifth. You’re not going to speed run this game, and more importantly, you’re not going to be successful in your first attempt. Sifu can be rewarding, if you’re willing to put in the work. Sloclap The challenge provided is rewarding That unprompted fist thrown in the air when I finally beat a boss at a respectable age was an excitement I haven’t felt from a game in a long time. I buy games to feel rewarded for the things I do, and for that, Sifu delivers. I’m fresh off of playing LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and that’s no Dark Souls. I found myself increasingly frustrated with the challenge that Sifu offered, and perhaps that’s on me for perhaps going too easy on myself in my gaming choices. ![]() The story is a rewarding experience, if you can resist the urge to throw your hands up in the air and simply give up. You survive because of the talisman in your hand at the time, which is meant to explain why when you die you revive, just a handful of years older. Yang then kills the school master, and has one of his goons (later called “The Botanist”) to cut your throat. The game opens with you controlling the main antagonist, Yang, fighting the students of a martial arts school. Your character’s sole purpose in the game and his life is centered around getting that very tasty revenge. Instead, I refused to admit that I’m a terrible fighter and decided that I was going to continue, and boy I’m glad I did.Įverything about Sifu is centered on revenge. Granted, if I weren’t granted the review I may have well counted my losses and moved on, probably to go back to playing Call of Duty, or doing a new play through of The Witcher 2. That strategy has served me well against my friends, it did not against Sifu’s increasingly difficult AI enemies. I’m a serial button masher, often deking out wins in Super Smash Bros’ Ultimate or Mortal Kombat out of pure luck and button mashing combos rather than out of pure skill. In fact, it can often be quite the opposite. Their first game, Absolver was well-received, and was praised for some of its innovation in the genre, and they decided to take that a step further here.Īn important thing to note for me reviewing this game is that I do not particularly seek out fighting games. And Sifu being on the Nintendo Switch seems like the perfect move for a game that I wanted to just keep playing after the first fight.įrom Parisian developer Sloclap, this isn’t their first attempt at making a roguelike fighter. ![]() And they may very well add to that total after today. Sifu performed extremely well on both Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, selling more than a million copies in total. Just released today is perhaps one of the more memorable fighting games released in recent memory. Release Date: Febru(original), November 8 (Switch) Platforms: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Epic Game Store By Bryan Nelson 4 months ago Follow Tweet The best way to go about creating your own gradient logo is to start with inspiration, and test out different colors and styles before committing to anything. Make sure to view it in black and white to test if the basic design works.Īnd while adding a gradient to your entire logo may be overdoing it, adding a gradient to only the symbol is the most common practice (and for a good reason). It’s important to note that adding a gradient to your logo doesn’t automatically make it cool and punchy - your design needs to look great both with and without color. At the very least, it’s an option to energize your branding and is easy to test out when designing a logo. When used well, gradients can be a great way to add personality to your logo design. Test colors and styles of gradients to see if one works for your design!.At the bottom of the Color Picker menu, select the gradient of your choice. In the menu above your logo, select the circle on the far left to open up the Color Picker menu. ![]() Click the logo element you want to edit (either the slogan, symbol, or container).Without constraints, your design can look intense real quick. They can have a significant visual impact on a design, so it’s important to use them sparingly. ![]() But if your initial design is simple and minimalist, adding a gradient could work well.īe careful when applying gradients. If you want your logo to have a container, slogan, or all of the above, adding a gradient will make the design too busy and hard to digest. If you want a wordmark (text-only) logo, a gradient design probably isn’t for you. Instead, gradients are usually applied to the symbol or monogram elements in a logo. Using a gradient on the business name or slogan is rare because it’s important to keep logo text legible. Your logo includes a symbol or monogram.Remember: Your logo should match your brand personality and target audience. But if you’re in a more creative industry, it could be a good fit. If you’re a financial consultant or an ultra-minimalist furniture brand, a gradient isn’t your best bet. If your business is going to be marketing primarily through print materials like menus, business cards, signs, or car decals, then you should strongly consider using a flat (non-gradient) logo design. Gradients are usually tricky to print because they consist of multiple colors. You’re going to use your logo for (mostly) online purposes. On the other hand, if you’re making a logo for your online health and wellness blog, you’ll have more flexibility to play with fun styles and colors. It needs to fit your brand identity - and, more importantly, resonate with your target audience.įor example, if you’re looking to create a logo for your boutique law firm, using a gradient probably won’t sit well with your clientele who are used to seeing traditional and plain law logos. However, we don’t recommend choosing a gradient logo solely because you want to stand out or because it’s trendy. Take a look at the designs below - the one on the right has a flat graphic, while the other has a gradient effect applied. ![]() Gradients often give logos a 3D effect, which can make a design pop off the screen. Looking for a way to stand out from your competitors? A gradient may be the trick to getting noticed. Each has a slightly different way of blending the colors together but they all produce the same blended gradient effect. There are three main types of gradients linear, radial, and conic. Without the gradual blend, you simply have a colorful design. To have a true gradient effect, the colors need to bleed into each other - they can’t be stacked side by side. You can also use a gradient that fades from one color into transparency. They can be a blend of analogous colors in the same shade OR a blend of a wide variety of colors. Gradients (also called color ramps or color progressions) consist of a gradual blend of colors or shades. All with fun gradient logo examples along the way! What is a gradient? Gradients have made a comeback as a graphic design trend this year, with more and more companies using colorful gradient logos to resonate with their audience and make a lasting impression.īut when is a gradient logo appropriate?
